Brian and I are getting married in a few short weeks, and we really want to serve a speciality his and hers drink at our reception. The problem is that we are having a hard time deciding on which drinks to serve! I found several of fall-inspired cocktails online that all sounded delicious….but we don’t want to serve them to our guests without trying them first. So we invited all of our neighbors over and hosted a drink tasting 🙂
We ended up trying six drinks total, but I won’t tell you which ones made the official cocktail menu. But I will tell you that all six drinks were amazing.
The first drink I am going to share with was inspired by a woman named Becky, who shared her recipe on her blog The Vintage Mixer. I am a huge fan of ginny gin gin gin and wanted something that had blueberries in it! You know, for that little touch of Maine 🙂 Not only did this recipe sound delicious, but I also felt that this drink was perfect given the unusually hot weather we have been experiencing in Chicago. It’s also pretty versatile, so Vodka would work well, too (for those of you are not gin lovers).
What You’ll Need:
- 1 ounce gin
- 1 ounce blueberry simple syrup
- 4 ounces Prosecco (*sparkling water also works)
- mint leaves for garnish
- blueberry simple syrup (see below)
- 8 ounces (1/2 lb) blueberries
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- a few mint leaves
Mix all ingredients in a cocktail glass and serve over ice. Then stir to combine. You can add as much or as little blueberry simple syrup as you want depending on how sweet you like it. Garnish with a mint leaf (you know, so it’s fancy).
In a small saucepan, bring all simple syrup ingredients to a simmer. Then cook over low until it becomes a jam-like consistency. This will take about 20 minutes or so, and stir occasionally.
And drink responsibly…because it’s so darn good you’ll probably have
more than one three:)
